“Sail Away”
Song by Ray Charles
Ray Charles does a loving version of Randy Newman’s classic “Sail Away” on his 1975 album Renaissance. Although he gets some of the original’s genius lyrics wrong the feeling is still there. And anyway Ray knows what he’s doing here – just listen to that muttered little laugh after the loaded line about “sweet watermelon and buckwheat cake”. “Sail Away” has the distinction of ending the excellent and varied LP.
