“Ray Minor Ray”
Song by Ray Charles
“Ray Minor Ray” is wild jazz. From Ray Charles’ 1975 LP My Kind Of Jazz Part 3, the tune jumps from chord to complex chord in lightning fast succession. The adept players absolutely have to be on their toes or “Ray Minor Ray” would fall flat; of course, given Ray’s perfectionism and his stature allowing him to locate the best of the best, everything is just fine. “Ray Minor Ray”, over Ray’s strictly supportive piano, features blazing sax and trumpet solos although the instigators aren’t given clear credit on the record jacket. The piece is just under four minutes long but despite going by in a flash it leaves a pleasant aftertaste. It’s energetic, to say the least.
