“Leave My Woman Alone”
Song by Ray Charles
Edgy and grim, Ray Charles’ 1956 B-side “Leave My Woman Alone” has a sinister sound befitting the beady glare of its title. It swings though; it is, after all, 1950s R&B from the genre’s undisputed master. Its quirky rhythm and slithering push even anticipate the unexpected bossa nova of Ray’s 1959 smash “What’d I Say”.
“Leave My Woman Alone” backed the poppier hit song “Lonely Avenue” on the single; it was later added to the 1958 compilation album Yes Indeed!
