“I Was On Georgia Time”
Song by Ray Charles
His home state of Georgia was always an inspiration for Ray Charles, and he returned to the well on the 1984 song “I Was On Georgia Time”. The sweet-as-moonshine country tune settles into a comfortable pace from the outset, with a sparse arrangement and Ray singing in his warm, masterfully nuanced middle range. A chorus of two or three (or more) Rays, in different registers, bolsters the choruses where the meaning of the title – Georgia time is unhurried, with time to enjoy a sunset – becomes clear.
“I Was On Georgia Time”, with its slow flow like a Georgia creek and those achingly pretty melodies, appeared on the 1984 LP Do I Ever Cross Your Mind. It was chosen as the B-side of the “Woman Sensuous Woman” single that same year.
