“I Cried For You”
Song by Ray Charles
Every song on the 1964 LP Sweet And Sour Tears was about crying, so “I Cried For You” fit the bill perfectly. But Ray Charles isn’t weeping here; he’s merrily brushing off an old love he has gotten over. His brass band explodes in every direction with a new-found exuberance as sassy Ray reflects on the fool he used to be and how much better off he is now. “I Cried For You”, sure, but now it’s your turn to cry over me! The song dates from 1923, making it the oldest song on the album and one of the very oldest that Ray ever recorded.
