“Game Number Nine”

Song by Ray Charles

When Ray Charles re-signed to Atlantic Records in the late 1970s, his first album True To Life included the song “Game Number Nine”. A lighthearted and comical depiction of a new relationship in which the woman proves far more wily than the formerly self-satisfied man was released as a single. (By the song’s end, the woman explains that while the man’s ninth game may be advanced, “I was playing a ten.”) “Game Number Nine” is funky and funny, one of many jewels on True To Life.
