“Eleanor Rigby”
Song by Ray Charles
Ray Charles recorded five Beatles songs in his career, and the best of these is 1968’s “Eleanor Rigby”. Turning the Psycho-stringed melodrama of the original into a dark and swampy rhythm and blues, Ray finds emotional detours and strangled vocal moments that Paul McCartney would never have discovered on his own. You might not think that a spooky and funkified version of “Eleanor Rigby” would work – but you’d be wrong. The track was on the album A Portrait Of Ray and was also the B-side of a single.
