An instrumental jazz piece, “Dawn Ray” was one of the leftovers chosen for the Ray Charles album The Genius After Hours. The album was compiled by Atlantic Records after their genius had signed with ABC. The title “Dawn Ray” presumably is intended to paint a picture of Ray Charles, having played all night, still sitting at the keys in the early morning hours before the sun comes up.
