“Baby Won’t You Please Come Home”
Song by Ray Charles
July 1952 saw Ray Charles release one of his final pre-Atlantic recordings. “Baby Won’t You Please Come Home” was issued on a 78 by Swing Time. It was recorded in the early summer of 1951 by a trio featuring Ray on lively blues piano with two unknown musicians on bass and guitar. “Baby Won’t You Please Come Home” has a spare and empty feeling, while Ray’s voice, at first warm, is clearly masking a private pain as the lyrics make woefully clear.
