“A Tear Fell”
Song by Ray Charles
Teresa Brewer had a hit with “A Tear Fell” in 1956 and Ray Charles made it his own on the 1964 LP Sweet And Sour Tears. The country waltz, which Ray does in front of a sweeping orchestra, features pitiful sentiments told in a wry and down-home style – just the sort of thing that Ray loved. As she danced careless and carefree she stepped on his tears that had fallen to the floor. It’s hard to get more down low than that.
“A Tear Fell” became the B-side of the single “No One To Cry To”. (Every song on Sweet And Sour Tears was about tears and crying, so all of Ray’s singles around this time were too.)
